Who am I?
I am María Pilar Gancedo González.
I have cerebral palsy, caused by poor care during childbirth. This disability prevents me from moving naturally, causing involuntary movements and a lack of balance, which is why I get around in a wheelchair.
For all the reasons mentioned above, I paint with my mouth. I have been doing this for more than 20 years. I started this activity in the special education school, I interrupted painting to pursue my studies and in 2004 I resumed it, although it was like starting over, but the evolution was much faster.
Painting is my passion; it allows me to express sensations and feelings and escape from the world. When I paint, only the canvas, the brushes, and the colors exist; there is nothing else.
All my paintings are done in oils, as this allows me to paint more freely and achieve better results and finishes. The exception is the painting "Sea of Finisterre" by the painter Henry Thonnye, which is done in acrylic. Needless to say, it is a crude reproduction of that painting.
This experience with acrylic paint was enough to reaffirm my comfort and pleasure in painting with the wonderful oil paint.
I try to paint as realistically as possible, but within realism, what I most enjoy doing are paintings like "Escaping from the Ice," "Eggplants or Penguins?" or "Flower, Fried Egg," which are both realistic and fantastical.
All available paintings are unique pieces. Once a painting is sold, it is not reproduced.
